All About Me
My name is Riley Webster,
I am 15 years old and live in beautiful British Columbia. I love to be active, socialize, and take photos. In my spare time I am usually playing sports but when I am not, I am out with friends or taking photos. Taking photos is a passion because it lets me show my creative side, and how I look at the world. The first term in my photography class has just ended, and I have learnt so many new things! One of my biggest accomplishments this term is learning how to use the manual setting on my camera. I had been struggling with learning all the different settings before, but now feel very comfortable with using it. I have also learnt how to use some of the lights in the studio, which I had no idea how to do before. Learning these two skills have elevated my photos to a new level. I enjoy being able to work in the studio taking portraits, and choosing how I want the photo to appear by using manual settings. Next term I am really hoping to learn other new interesting ways to take photos and edit them in Photoshop (ex. framing techniques, and smashing photos together). |
Through the year, I have
learnt so much! When looking back to when I first started photography I just
have to laugh at myself. The photos I took never really had a meaning behind
them, and were never executed properly. Today I am proud to present my photos
in front of my classmates and feel confident when handing them in. I love to
take photos that make you think, or feel something. I loved the famous
photographer project, that’s when I felt like I had really evolved as a
photographer! The photos that we had taken (partners Simran and Kyra) made
everyone stop and take a second look; everyone had their own thought on the
photo… I want to do that with all my photos. This year I learnt so many new
skills and feel so much more comfortable behind the lens. I learnt how to use multiple
new lenses, use the manual setting on the camera, and have learnt to enhance my
photos with Photoshop.
Over the past two terms we have had seven new projects, and six new weekly challenges. I will admit that I don’t love a lot of my weekly challenges, but the past three that I completed I’m proud of. I love the color in them, and I enjoy the fact that the series fit well together. For the projects… I am ecstatic with the way they turned out, my favorite project was the ‘Famous Photographer’ project mostly because I felt that I grew as an individual artist. My second favorite project was the ‘Typology’; it was a new concept that I had never been introduced to, and it was very exciting to explore. I liked the way my typology turned out; I thought that the format was different and that it was nice and colorful.
Now that the year is winding up, I am proud to look back and see what I have accomplished, but at the same time I am ready for the new challenges ahead.

#1 This photo was taken for my Famous Photographer project. I LOVE this photo, and am so proud with the way it turned out. In the original photo the girl was wearing clothes, but I edited them out to try and make the photo more serious. I wanted to show the vulnerability of women.
#2 The typology was another project I was very proud of! I loved the colours and area of the photo. Being close to the water when taking these photos was quite a hassle, it was extremely cold and windy. I was not able to look over the photos until we were inside, wichment that if they one did not turn out we would have to do them all again or the spacing would be different.
#3 This picture was apart of my weekly challenge number six, I really loved this one! I loved all the art, I thought it had really great colour, and the way the door framed the photo was perfect.
#4 I took this photo to be apart of my soundtrack series, but took it out in the end because I didn't think that it fit with the rest of them. When taking this photo I was very picky on who's hands I use, I wanted the males hand to look strong (wanted to see a vain in the hand), and the girls hand had to be small and fragile with her nails done nicely.
#5 This photo was taken downtown, I was luck enough to catch the model while flipping her hair. I think that this made the photo because it brings in an element of SASS!
#6 This macro shot was my favourite! I was so happy with it, I love that you can see all the dew on the petals, and the soft pink was beautiful.
#7 With a zoom lens I was able to take photos of people downtown and not disturb them. I thought this was a really cool photo because it just had so much going on. (I love the dog in the photo!!!)
#8 The photo of the girl in the bed was apart of my soundtrack project. It was the best picture in the series and the photo I was most proud of.

#1 I have known her for I long time and seen many photos of her. I always look at them and say that is not what she looks like when she smiles. They never show how happy she really looks. I wanted to show her real smile, because I love it so much!
#2 Her eyes have a very unique look to them. They are smiley, and beautifully coloured. I wanted to capture her eyes without a lot of makeup on because it brings them out, showcasing that you don’t always need to where makeup to be beautiful.
#3 I really loved the lighting in this picture; it makes her look young and insistent(Which she is).
#4 I Love this photo, I thought it was very dramatic before I edited it, but after it increased the intensity even more. I edited the back ground and shadows black. As well as took colour our and added in more gray.
#5 This is one of my favourite photos I took all term. It was taken for my portraits project, for this project I wanted the photo to represent or show an interesting character. I feel that in this photo I capture an interesting character, which was dark and mysterious. I was very happy with the turn out!
#6 This photo was fun to go out and take. We packed up a backpack with a big book, a chair, blanket, and other cool props. We walked around the area looking for interesting surroundings to take photos at. I thought that this photo was an interesting because of the surroundings, and what she is doing in the spot.
#7 Being a teenager in this era means that music is very important to me, I went out and tied up 7 CD’s to a tree branch and hung them in an environment that would represent music free in the world.
#8 I took two photos and use Photoshop to edit them together. If I were to redo this I would use a different mirror because the one I used was hard to see and put the model in a different environment.
